Hello! My name is Miette Brennan and I am a prospective student interested in enrolling into a Masters level art therapy program! I am seeking a comprehensive, creative, and responsive learning environment where I can learn and grow, to further strengthen the efficacy and roundedness of my future practice. I see the pursuit of a graduate degree as my gateway to not only ATR-BC credentials, but also as an additional stepping stone in my journey into becoming a mindful, trauma informed, and professional clinician.
Oftentimes using just words is not enough to communicate or touch the sub-level that our emotions lay within. I find excitement and fulfillment in the chance to offer someone the creative opportunity to explore their emotional unknowns with the use of art material. Holding with acknowledgement that my experience, expectations, and goals will not be the same as my client's and that the connection to material may not resonate the way I intend each time; but also still offering my excitement and joy in every way possible.
Being born and raised in the local Philadelphia suburban area, I have always been surrounded by the rich art community of the city and the abundance of the nature that envelops the area. Receiving my Associates of Fine Arts from the Delaware College of Art and Design, spending a year at the University of the Arts before the school's closing, and completing my BA in Art Therapy at Arcadia University left me with a strong foundation in studio arts practices, and an interest in all things multi-media.
My work is an internal examination, an unraveling, and often an unfinished question as to how I felt in a particular moment. Whether it be landscape, still life, or portraiture; painting, drawing, or weaving, the goal is to always capture the essence of my sensory and emotional experience. My belief is that to make even just one person feel something the way I did, through the visual story told, then success has been met.
Drawing inspiration from the things I see outside on my daily walks to the things my pets do that make me laugh. I am constantly finding creativity in the mundane, and I seek to encourage others to see the little beauties within themselves and their own surrounding worlds. I resonate heavily with the notion of mindfulness being a healing practice and carry that within my perspective as an art therapist.
